We’ll be gathering again for a supper meeting on Thursday, November 22nd, 2012, at Nate’s Deli Family Kitchen, 1545 Merivale Road, 613-226-5050, two and a bit blocks south of Baseline & Clyde, on east side of Merivale (former Cora’s building). This is the new location for the original Nate’s from Rideau Street, complete with Dave Smith. 🙂
There is a large separated section at the back of the restaurant, so we can converse better, and have a large number of people at a huge table layout. Official start time is 6pm, reservation is for 5:30, so they’re ready for early-birds.
Please join us for a fun evening, and a brief AGM with discussion on where we’re going from here!
We’ll be gathering once again on Thursday, October 25th, 6pm, at Colonnade Pizza, 1463 Merivale Road (Food Basic Mall) 613-727-8686. This is a small mall located across Merivale from the Loblaws on Baseline / Merivale. Buses on Baseline are just a short walk across the parking lot, then across Merivale.
Please join us for a fun evening.
Watch for an announcement of our next dinner/evening gathering.
The August dinner gathering saw seven members and guests enjoying pizza or pasta, and chatting. We met for the first time at the Colonnade West location, 1463 Merivale Road (Food Basic Mall). It is on good bus routes, and just across Merivale from the Loblaws at Baseline.
We’ll be at Colonnade Pizza, 280 Metcalfe, corner of Gilmour 6pmish June 14th, 2012. (There’s on street parking in the area and bus service along Elgin one block away). The back corner of the restaurant is reserved in Alex Binkley’s name for any early arrivals.
We had a good turnout for our May supper meeting so we are trying that format again. We had a great time talking among ourselves about all things SFF.
We’ve had an executive meeting and can see a way forward for our group to get plugged in with all the other SFFH etc groups in Ottawa.
We want feedback at the Thursday get together on moving away from Sunday afternoon sessions to gatherings in restaurants about the city. We decided not to switch locations for now mainly because everyone on the executive is already too busy with work etc to organize it. But we would like suggestions on that as well on how to make supper gatherings most interesting and get people to mingle and move around.
Also we would like to hear any ideas you have on making our group more relevant, interesting and fun. Also any movie recommendations. Finally saw the Averngers–what a hoot.
If you’re coming on Thursday, would you let Alex know so we have some idea of what to expect. And bring along anyone who might be interested. Email: events@ottawasfs.ca
OSFA President Diane Bruce invites members to join her for pizza at the Colonnade 280 Metcalfe, 6pm May 3 (Thursday) to talk about the future direction members would like to see for OSFS. As she says, “If no one else shows up, I’ll just buy some pizza for myself.”
She wants to talk about rebranding OSFS. Few people attend our meetings and we need to change that.
2:00 pm – 5:00 p.m.: Our topic will be on consciousness and the brain presented by Inge Loy-English who has attended some OSFS functions. Peter Hargraves will discuss some of the philosophical aspects of consciousness. One member is hoping to learn more about bicameral mind theories. Bring friends, tell others.
NOTE: The meetings start promptly at 2pm!
We’ll be posting messages here to let you know of events, meetings and more. Feel free to comment, but please be aware comments must be approved (to prevent spam), so it may take a while to show up on the site.
