Dinner meeting, Wed May 8, 6:30pm, Colonnade Pizza (Metcalfe & Gilmour)

Join us for dinner at the Colonnade Pizza downtown location, Metcalfe & Gilmour, on Wed May 8th, 2013, at 6:30pm. We’ll be discussing future outings, including the following suggestions:
  • Would there be interest among the members in meeting at Comic Con next weekend? If so any suggestions on where and when?
  • A visit to new planetarium in Montreal has been suggested. We need to discuss ride sharing and dates.
  • Also there’re many new movies coming to town–who’s interested in seeing what.

Aurora Awards 2013

Nominations for the Aurora awards close on April 15. For reasons that may be apparent I’m hoping as many people as possible nominate works they’ve read and liked. A final ballot will be compiled from the top nominees in May. To nominate you have to be a paid-up member of The Canadian Science Fiction & Fantasy Association (CSFFA); this will cost you $10 but there are several ways to pay including Paypal.

CSFFA’s link is www.prixaurorawards.ca  You can nominate (up to three items in each category) electronically there, or download a mail-in form.

You get one chance to vote, with no second thoughts, so I recommend that you at least look at the list of eligible works assembled at www.canspecfic.com/2012-can-sf-2  Click on the “2012 Can. SF” button at the top of the page, pick a category and then scroll down until you see titles. You should see a few things you recognize.

Think of it as keeping SF democratic.

jan howard finder Memorial and Irish Wake

From Lin Daniel, sending from jan’s email account:  I’m trying to reach as many of his friends as I can with some important and time-sensitive information.

For those who don’t already know, my apologies for dropping this on you so abruptly: jan howard finder, The Wombat, passed away 26 February 2013 just after midnight, at the hospital where he was receiving treatment for cancer. I was with him at the time, and his passing was peaceful.

Following are the details of the memorial convention for jan. Please share this info far and wide, since I’m sure a few names are missing from these lists of people who want to know and perhaps attend.
